Fakten
2014 war ein herausforderndes Jahr für die Winzer im Barolo. Im Weingut Brovia entschied man sich daher dafür, das beste aus der Situation zu machen:
“2014 has been an unusual vintage, characterized by challenging weather conditions during part of the season (specially a cool and rainy summer) and the lowest yields in the vineyard during the recent years. The end of the season has been “easier” for winegrowers, since September has presented much better weather conditions that have allowed to pick the nebbiolo grapes with very good maturation levels.
In our case the barolos from some sites have achieved the top quality levels we require for our cru labels, while other positions -though offering very nice quality wines- were not clearly reaching those severe requirements.
Since our first and main goal is getting the highest possible expression from every single vintage, our decision for this vintage has been among producing just the crus that undoubtedly achieved our top quality levels (plus our Barolo Brovia “blend”) or pursuing that scope with a new barolo. We have decided to accept a new challenge, applying the motto “Unity is Strength”, and thus looking for the best possible union of terroirs that gave us the best possible expression of the 2014 vintage.
After many days blind-tasting different samples, Ūnĭo has been the result of the union of a fine selection of some of our best positions… A wine with the highest quality levels we require from our single vineyards Barolos labels, but coming from a very careful selection of some of our best sites.” Alex Sanchez

Meinungen
“Here’s an interesting expression from Alex Sanchez and Elena and Cristina Brovia in Castiglione Falletto. The 2014 Barolo Unìo opens to a dark color tonality and an immediately velvety texture. The bouquet is brimming with dark fruit aromas spanning from Morello cherry to bitter currant. Spice, tar, cola and balsam herb fill in the background evenly and with harmony. This is a well-balanced wine from the 2014 vintage that shows impressive integrity across all the senses. Some 24,000 bottles were produced.” Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: Monica Larner
“Sehr intensives, dunkles Rubinrot mit violettem Stich. Duftige und vielschichtige Nase nach Rosenblättern, Minze, Staubzucker, dann viel Cassis und Brombeeren, auch leicht rauchige Nuancen. Eleganter Mundeintritt mit weichem Tannin und fein integrierter Säure, im mittleren Bereich sehr dunkelbeerig und vielschichtig, zieht sich lange und kompakt im Finale hinaus.” Falstaff: Othmar Kiem, Simon Staffler
